Brian, I've seen the effect that you are describing before. It is almost always on Regular 8mm film that was not properly loaded into the camera, and it is usually more exagerrated that what I am seeing here. Being that you are getting this effect on recent Super 8 K40, I do not know what the proble...

Wal*Mart does not offer developing services for Ektachrome 7240, Tri-X, Plus-X, or any S8 negative film. Depending on how close you live to New York City, you might want to try Pac Lab for processing of Ektachrome 7240, Tri-X, and Plus-X. They now sell the above stocks with processing included. You ...

July 4th Fireworks

The following are clips from a fireworks display I shot on the 4th of July. Sorry if I used Windows Media, but the Cinepak and Indeo-codec based files were just too big for the internet. According to the licensing agreement for DivX, DivX is for personal not commercial use. I do not know if uploadin...

A Confession

I know Kodachrome is considered by many here to be the greatest 8mm filmstock ever, but I've never really liked CineChrome 25 Double 8mm film. It looks too frosty and oversaturated for my tastes. I've used it because it's cheap and has the least grain. I've used Cine Color 125 and thought it was mor...

'70s Super 8 Student Films Projected at "Video" Sc

On Friday night I went to a screening of short films shot by a local high school's A/V and Drama clubs. As one can expect, all of these "films" are shot on either Hi8, Digital 8, or miniDV. This screening was slightly different. The organizers only had two recent student "films" ...

Camera Shops in Philadelphia/Allentown/Bethlehem, Pa?

My main source for 8mm gear has been thrift shops and eBay. I'd like to try my luck finding used gear at camera shops/fairs in either the Philadelphia/Allentown/Bethlehem, Pennsylvania area. Does anyone know of any camera shops that in the vicinity of these three cities that might have old 8mm gear ...

Okay, I took Michael's advice and downloaded the DivX codec. Here is my the DivX-encoded film: ftp://filmshooting.com/upload/video/avi/escort2.AVI It's only 3 megs and it is heavily compressed. I hope it works, because I'm practically all out of codecs. I'm going to upgrade to newer NLE software soo...

Well, I made the fireworks display at the firehouse, but I forgot my Canon. I had my own fireworks display at home, using "showers" and sparklers. I set up two cameras--one a Canon 512XL, the other my venerable Leicina Super. The Canon is a XL camera, wheras the Leica is not. The cameras w...

That shot of the car first out of the garage looked so much like a home movie, the color I mean. That is the K40 look. Did you use extra lighting in the garage and the bathroom? A 750-watt quartz halogen Lowell Tota and a 375-watt Sylvania photoflood were used in the garage, bathroom, and the shots...

i liked it a lot. good acting and an interesting story. like you say the photography wasn't always excellent, but always ok and really nothing to complain about. Thanks. As for the title cards, I don't think many people like them either. Yet it was really the only way I could do dialogue and get so...

I had a bad feeling that people were going to assume that the "escort" in the title referred to a prostitute rather than a car.

As for the film, what do you think of it?
