Okay gang,
So after repairing the reflex mirror, which led to the damage to the zoom motor wires and the daylight filter
and...
The removal of the scratched daylight filter and repair of the zoom motor leads...
](*,)
The f###ing thing won't focus. I can ballpark it, but I never get the split focus element to line up.
I'm thinking it's the mirror I replaced...it's in such a tight area that I can't really get to it to properly line it up and push it flush into it's frame.
For those who have successfully done this repair in the past, especially David M. Leugers, what did you do to assure that your reflex mirror was lined up properly?
BTW, does anyone have a repair manual for these cameras?
Thanks!
Brandt

Just a question: did you just re-install the original mirror, or did you make a new one and try to install it? If you are making a new mirror, it must be what they call a "first surface" mirror and it must be of the same exact thickness to align properly. A first surface mirror has the reflecting surface on the top (regular household mirrors have the reflecting surface on the back of the mirror with glass on top).
I just reinstalled the original mirror that had come loose and stuck it on with a dab of super-glue.

Yes, yes, it's always easier to buy a new one.
I WILL NOT ADMIT DEFEAT!
Really, it hasn't been tough (except for when the mirror dropped into the rear of my lens assembly with glue on it) It's just been time, and I have time...I haven't been shooting much lately.
David, I am using the original lens. Too much trouble to cut a new one out of first surface mirror and cut that 45deg bevel out of the bottom.
I guess I'll just pull the front off again, strip the glue and superglue it after taping it in place. The tape worked fine the first time. Alignment was fine.
Carry on gentlemen.
