Well I just received two fantastic S8 transfers from two different sources. Both were AMAZING.
A friend (no, not Alex) recommended the Transfer Station in Reseda, CA

They did a wetgate transfer on a film I shot in Plus-X, (15 minutes of footage for under $100!) much of which was scratched. Most of the scratches are gone -- they really restored how it used to look.
Then, Roger Moviestuff sent me back my Kodachrome/Fuji Velvia reel. More good stuff; excellent colors. The close-ups that had been properly lit look BEAUTIFUL. There is only about 15 feet of the Velvia since it stopped turning in my camera (I think it needed a more powerful camera than my Minolta XL 401 or my Bolex 160)...I'll try to post some stuff when I get back from New York.

Yeah, I tried them. The transfer was okay. My avatar is actually a few k40 frames taken from the transfer. Brian there told me that the setup is a modified projector that projects at either 20 or 24 fps, and the "wetgate" is not the traditional wetgate we think of when using DiVincci color correction, or on Rank. The focus pulled once or twice in my footage and that kinda bummed me out. Some of the footage looks pretty nice, I mean for budget telecine. I can post some of the footage if you guys wanna see.ultrazero wrote: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

77 feet (that I loaded on a 50 foot reel) cost me $38.10US. I supplied the DV tape, and I got their top of the line service: Aeral/wetgate

I have no idea what they are using for telecine but I do know that I stumbled upon their site about six months ago and they were using images stolen from MY telecine site. When I called to ask them about it, they guy was an asshole on the phone and actually argued with me. He hung up on me but they did eventually remove my photos and graphics after I sent some threatening emails. I'm also not too impressed with their grasp of the technology, based on the descriptions they use in their ad. For instance, they say that "ariel image" is projecting the film onto a glass surface and that it really only works on 16mm and not recommended for super 8. How silly.Ultrazero wrote:Has anyone tried these guys?
