Is it dead here or just me??

It doesn't seem like the board has had that much life in it the last couple months.

I guess you are all out shooting video with your iPod Nano or something.

Good Luck

The thrill is gone perhaps...I think video SLRs killed the camcorder/super8 crowd.

I'll keep shooting my modest amounts for as long as I can...with an eye to trying that new Panasonic G1 camera with a c-mount lens...one day.

Hang in there, Super8man. There's always another camera and roll of film around the corner. Ever tried one of those early 8mm Yashica's with the twin turret and prime lenses? Are they as good as your beloved Canon Eight's????

Shot tri x and E64T in july with a repaired Beaulieu 4008. Everything came back great. I am waiting for the right time for E100 in double super 8. This week I gave advice for a young guy who wanted to buy a super 8 camera. Jean

I haven't shot s8 since last summer (jan/feb 2009), just bought a canon 7d, which to be honest just makes me want to shoot more s8.

everything these days is so crisp and hd not to mention shallow dof.

I guess the main "problem" is the fact that there aren't any new or discontinued products ... . So the only (boring) topics would be the latest home movies or the last eBay-shopping-results... .

You mean we have solved the "how many lines of resolution super 8 has?" and "which camera is the best super 8 camera?"

Man, this must be what it's like when humanity figures out the answer to the universe...42 if I recall correctly.

Just shot a roll of Tri-X last week. First roll of anything I've shot in 2 years. If it comes out ok maybe I'll post it. If not, I'll toss! :)

Been shooting a lot of film lately on various old cameras in Regular 8mm, Super 8mm, and 16mm with the 1950's Mansfield Holiday II, 1970's Nizo S800, 1950's Kodak Brownie, 1950's Kodak K-100, and 1970's Sankyo Super CM-400...mostly black and white Plus X & Tri-X, and color in Chrome 100D. Forum may be quiet, but there's plenty of activity on my end.

Rarely touch video except to shoot the moon.

Yes, it is capable of resolving HD-quality if you use a good camera/optics. :)
super8man wrote:and "which camera is the best super 8 camera?"
Oh, yes. The best super8 camera is the Fujica ZC1000... ;)

Sounds like we're missing the random newbies who are put off by the tedious account-opening process. So we now need to make up the important questions ourselves. How about this one:

Does my Canon AutoZoom 814E shoot in PAL or NTSC? And how do I convert the footage?

I guess '42' would be a very appropriate answer to that one.

Well, I would have to disagree. The best super8 is the Mekel Cine-8, because it is the best and is super8!

Thats one of the big reasons I haven't been around much, the forum seems a bit lifeless these days. Perhaps its a downward spiral.

It doesn't help that running out of money has severely curtailed my S8 ambitions - I've now got a freezer full of film I can't afford to process! Or maybe it was the announcement that Kodachrome is being discontinued is what put everyone on a downer! :(

I had very actively been using the internet to punt about 8mm film for over a year before I stumbled onto this site. It does not seem to have a very high profile. Is it linked to Super8man's site? I don't remember seeing it the one million times I've been there. His site comes up with great frequency in searches. Would be a great link.

I have used one of the Yashica 8 "Federwerk" with Kern lenses and liked it a lot. The viewfinder beats the heck out of the Bolex.
