Widescreen Centre Processing questions

Howdy. Just wandering if any of you have used the Widescreen Centre to process any 16mm film. I am confused as to how the payment thing works. I sent them an e-mail a few days ago and got no reply so could any of you answer these questions:

1. You can buy 16mm processing on their site (via shopping basket). But this seems odd, how can they send you processing???

2. Do you send the film and then buy the processing or the other way around?

Sorry about the lame questions but I have never had film processed before, and was confused about how to pay for and send the films.

Hi there,

The way it works is you send them the exposed film and then they phone you with the cost.

I would telephone them first to get a quote though. The film is processed by Andec in Berlin who do a very good job. You can send it to them direct if you like but the saving is not much, or at least is was not when I checked it out.

I expect, though I have not tried it, that the Widescreen Centre send you some sort of voucher for processing...and you mail the film back to them with the voucher.

They then mail it to Andec in Berlin who actually process it, Andec mail it to the Widescreen Centre and then back to you.

Easier to cut out the middle man, buy the film without processing (assuming it is not Kodachrome) and send it to Andec yourself saving you money.

I use Andec sometimes for B&W and Ektachrome super 8 and they offer a very professional service. They have a chap whose name is (I think) Ludwig Draser who speaks good English who will deal with any emails...and he occasionally posts to this board too.

I think on just one occasion in the last 5 years I had a film process go wrong with Andec...they sent my me tri-x fogged (about 20 feet was usable) and a replacement film all free of charge. Very nice people.

The saving by sending the film direct to Andec is negligable, especially when you factor in postage out to and back from Germany. Widescreen are their agent and aim to sell at the same price, but obviously the exchange rate can have an effect. Andec will advise to send to Widescreen.

I called Widescreen and asked if they would process my 16mm B&W neg film and make a print. They said to send it to Andec myself.

To sort out fact from fiction
call me at Widescreen.
We do send Super-8 to Andec.
16mm service is sketchy. We were using Hendersons in the UK
but they went Bankrupt.
We don't post Super-8 to Andec , we courier, regardless of whether we have 1 roll or 100 rolls of film.
I'm looking to set up another 16mm service in the U.K
We can send 16mm to Andec but it takes just under two weeks to get get back..which is too long to wait for 16mm customers.
If anyone has negative B/W or Col 16mm , best place to send in the U.K is Soho Images in Soho London tel: 020 7437 0831
I use them myself and Len who runs the Lab is a great help.

Well I can only talk about super 8 but I save about 1/3 total costs posting direct to Andec....given that I would otherwise have to post my film to the Widescreen Centre

Having said that I haven't used Andec or anybody else for a while as I tend to process my B&W films myself and haven't used 7240 in well over a year so prices could have changed.

Didn't Hendersons buy some Super 8 Processing equipment from some lab in france recently? Maybe it's up for sale again. anyone... anyone..

Hendersons bought a Super-8 VNF processing machine.
Since Hendersons folded, a Property company has bought the site with all equipment included.
That's as much as I know, other than the fact that the machine Hendersons purchased wasn't fully operational and this why no Super-8 processing materialised in April.
It was a distaster. It was the worst news.

Do you know if the company has actually been put into insolvency? If it has the liquidators will now be in control of all the company assets and will be looking to sell everything.

Does anyone know what the name of the limited company was? I can not find any reference to hendersons on the Companies house website. If I know this I could find out a lot more, which could be interesting.

I remember emailing them, perhaps in April or May and getting a positive response that they expected to be processing super 8 film within a few weeks...then I heard nothing.

They seemed a friendly company, even offering tours of their facility. A great shame if they have disappeared.
