My Best Results Have Been With this Camera.

Post by Shanec8mm »

A processed roll of standard 8mm film returned from Dwayne's yesterday. The film (a test roll) had been shot last week with a Bolex K2. This Bolex is famous for it's Kern Switar lens. A test roll was a must to experience this for myself. So after cleaning and lubing the film I fired-up the projector. The first scene was my cat gazing out the bedroom window. The sharpness of this film is like nothing I have shot before. As the film progressed forward I was convinced the K2 is one heck of a good camera. Well the lens has a lot to do with this of course. So in the end if you have a chance to get the K2 you will not be disappointed. Scenes where I had focused in on a close object were absolutely stunning. The Kern Switar is a good lens and my film is a testament to that. Sorry I don't telecine my movies to show the results.

Oh sorry I guess that would have been good information to add LOL. I used Ektachrome 100D. Colors and saturation look great. I overexpose by 2/3 of stop when using this film.

I believe this is to make up for the battery he is using. It underexposes due to wrong voltage. Original mercury battery calls for 1.3V.

Yes that is correct I am compensating for the change in voltage. Plus 100D benefits from some overexposure. Even a 1/3 of a stop will yield more realistic colors in my opinion.

I used to have the Bolex K2 and then I sold it. Your posts make want to get this camera again. Hopefully I can get a fully working one on eBay in the near future.
