music video featuring footage from pulse of life
so, here it is, the music video i shot and co-directed that includes some footage from pulse of life. thanks a lot to awand and the cinematographers for that. for budget reasons we used short ends of pretty much every film stock and every asa there is (see if you can spot the difference in this low quality version) and we shot standard 16 in an sr1 with a zeiss 10-100 (?) zoom. it vignetted rather badly at 10mm, as you will see. it's all outside tv safe though and we transferred full frame so i guess it's outside the projected area too, but still. so, the video was released to stations today and it's already playing here and there. in sweden only of course. i doubt if the irony of a dansband recording teddybears songs works anywhere else. ;-)

the music that killed the rocksters (aspiring rock/pop band in good progress) in the same countries in the later 60s to 70s.mattias wrote:yes, dansband means dance band. it's a very swedish and norwegian thing, possibly finnish too. think garth brooks, elvis impersonators and german oompa oompa bands, mix them and add lots of 50+ ladies acting like backstreet boys fans around them.

nice job btw.

Yes, very much so...mattias wrote:possibly finnish too
Thing I was wondering (förlåt my swedish) what they mean with "dansbander". That's plural, isn't it? or is it some sort of play on words like "boy-bander"?
I'd still add some argentine tones in, but otherwise your description is pretty much spot-onmattias wrote:think garth brooks, elvis impersonators and german oompa oompa bands, mix them and add lots of 50+ ladies acting like backstreet boys fans around them.
Like A-HA, and Ace of Base? On the film side, Scandanavia has a lot of Black Metal bands. Aren't Emporer from Norway?mattias wrote:yes, dansband means dance band. it's a very swedish and norwegian thing, possibly finnish too. think garth brooks, elvis impersonators and german oompa oompa bands, mix them and add lots of 50+ ladies acting like backstreet boys fans around them.

well, the original song is called punkrocker and the most famous version of it is called hiphopper, so i guess you can call it playing with words.lunni wrote:Thing I was wondering (förlåt my swedish) what they mean with "dansbander". teadub, ace fo base? a-ha? what do they have to do with garth brooks and aren't their audiences more in their teens? no, just look at these guys and the dancing couple in the video and you'll figure it out. ;-)

I love the look -- all of them.
What I like the most is how conventional the shooting style is. Not conventional == "boring", but conventional == "not gimmicky". You chose some straightforward shots and executed them beautifully.
I won't try to play "name that stock", but the warm purples of the couple dancing shots played great against the cool greys of the band members. The stage shots seemed right in between and also looked great.
My favorite shots were the simple moving pans you did (in each direction) across the front of the band on stage. Simple, subtle, dynamic. Nice. The party shots at the end also great fun.
The whole thing strikes me as so very 80's, and I even think I remember a Huey Lewis or Bruce Springsteen or Billy Joes video that had a couple dancing in an empty room with a mirror ball. Am I crazy?
Anyway, tasty work as always.

I thought you would be more into my coment about the band Emporer.
I thought the look was good. In a couple of the long shot / dance sequences it looked like there was too much GAIN (although that may just be because there was not enough light), and there was a couple of camera BUMPS towards the end. But other then that, it looks great.

Interesting. I haven't heard anything about your project before, even you have used my footage in it without my permission of course (is that meaning Andreas is now owning the rights for these all footage?? I don't think so).mattias wrote:so, here it is, the music video i shot and co-directed that includes some footage from pulse of life. thanks a lot to awand and the cinematographers for that./matt
Anyway I don't care, great to see, that you wanted to use my one from all of these other great footage in "Pulse Of life".
Even I took apart for this great film project previously called "time lapse 2004" and then "Pulse of Life", I haven't had any idea, that one day my footage will be one part of swedish "humppa"-music video!
Now, cause you haven't asked me about to put footage in video, I want to put it in our upcoming DVD as a part of special material (and of course Pulse of life, if it is possible), fair deal, right?
Best Regards

Re: music video featuring footage from pulse of life
there was another thread last week and in that i was told, by andreas as well as other participants, that since andreas is the producer of pulse of life he has the right to grant me permission to use it, which he did. it most likely doesn't mean he has exclusive rights though, so you can also use it for whatever you like without his permission. as a matter of fact wasn't the deal that all participants got full non exclusive rights to all the footage to edit their own version, send it to festivals and so on? i definitely didn't want to step on any toes.jukkasil wrote:[Interesting.
