Current UK cheap/good UK HD super-8 transfer recommendations

Post by timdrage »

Wow I haven't posted here for like 6 years or something!? :-S

Good to be back, was just thinking it's finally time to do what i've been meaning to for years and actually get all my super 8 transferred and actually edit some stuff, and make better quality web versions of my old animation work. Does anyone have any particular UK recommendations for low budget but good HD telecine/transfer in this day and age? I don't need anything too fancy, probably just one-light transfer, films spliced together on large reels, tho I would probably go for film cleaning tho if they do that. Straight to hard drive would be best as opposed to any kind of tape...

Thanks!

My definitions of 'cheap' and 'good' pretty vague by the way, some kind of nice balance between the two I guess. :) and I'd maaaaybe consider some kind of SD transfer instead if particularly high quality and affordable.

Not exactly in the UK, but apart from that, Uppsala Bildteknik would meet all your (other) requirements. I used them a couple of times, rare combination of good, cheap and fast.

Thanks. Yeah I should have mentioned I'll consider outside of the UK places too if the prices are still good with shipping etc, will take a look!

I've used Uppsala as well - very good service.

You could also try these guys who are in the UK.

Their prices look very good to me.

Thanks, looks decent indeed, anyone here used them? The site says HD by the end of 2011, I've emailed them to see if they have that up and running yet.

Thanks guys for the recommendations! :D

If these films are more like "professional or semipro" footage, instead of old familyfilms, contact me for a link to a special offer we have for all newly developed 8mm films.

Well lightbreeze seem to charge the same amount for a reversal scene-by-scene in SD that we do for all scene-by-scene transfers in HD using our special offer (if their prices are for SD transfers, which I guess they are). I have no idea about the quality they deliver though, haven´t seen any of their transfers. :)

Our transfers are done by to SD, we were hoping to introduce HD in December, but have got delayed since getting our processing set up sorted has taken quite a bit of time. The service is popular here in England as it’s quick and the postage within England is pretty cheap. We are finishing off some short films that we’ve processed and scanned, these will be online soon. You can find more about us here http://www.lightbreeze.co.uk/about.htm
