Bye bye Kodachrome...

Post by jpolzfuss »

Hi,

as Dwayne's is going to stop processing in the end of 2010: Do you still got some films left? And what are you going to do with them?

(I still have 8 carts of K40 left, 6 of them are even sound-carts. I'm going to film my little daughter with them. So there's no "farewell"-project from my side...)

Going to shoot some on the new year celerbrations in Hong Kong, it is the year of the 'Tiger' next february. Then shoot more during the summer on "My last Kodachrome summer. I have some carts of K40 and reels of K25 standard 8 left. Sad really, there won't be anymore of that distinctive smell of the film and the sight of that iconic yellow box.

I've got a few K40 sound carts in the fridge...hoping to shoot it on Venice beach for the Hare Krishna fest next summer...or some other '70s style extravaganza...

I just got 5 K40 from around 2005 for $50sh.

It seems there is a decline of interest for K40 due to the dateline. I don't know if I can use all 5 carts before 2010. Hopefully Dwyane will extend the dateline (will that possible? 8) )

cheers,

winbert

Aaahh you are right aj, I should say before 2011.

Just in case we still have K40 after that, any possibility an independent lab process it? To process a Kodachrome is not simple, isn't it?

No possible...once Dwaynes goes, that's it. You will end up with "test" carts of K40...The Ektachrome looks good though so keep up your spirits!

Hi,

it might still be possible to process the K40 as b&w-negative-film when Dwayne's has stopped its process...

Hey, it's "only" US$42.50 per roll! ;)

BTW: Can Rocky Mountain also process the K40 as colour-reversal?!? Or do they only forward those films to Dwayne's?

I thought I had a roll of K25 left but when I checked the freezer for it this summer it was gone...I think I used it in 2007.

I haven't bought any more, but I might just be using some in summer 2010. Its tricky as I expected to use some slide film this summer and ended up not doing so.
The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter :)

I'm in the same boat, a lot of K40 on ice and running out of time. 8O

I have 2 rolls of K25 in 16mm and one reg 8 K40. I was going to use it to capture fall colors, but the rains have started so too late. So I guess next summer it is.
