Shooting style "save Private Ryan"-question's

hi all,

You can change the shutter of a camera to get pictures style "save Private Ryan"?
For example, changing a camera like the Canon 310, only for what purpose ...
I read in a post today that can power directly to the engine it go faster.
Then how do you rule with the exposure?
The internal exposure takes into account the increased speed of the shutter?

You need a camera with a variable shutter. Some variable shutters allow more light (slower shutter/longer exposure) and some offer a variable shutter with a faster shutter, or shorter exposure. You want a faster shutter for that look. When the exposure time is cut in half with a faster shutter, you compensate by opening 1 stop. The canon 1014E and Nizo silent models have variable shutters that cut exposure time by 1/2 or 3/4(2 stops compensation)

I did some shutter modifications when I shot 'rage of silence' to give the the staccato 'saving private ryan' look. Used a Nizo Pro and Tri-X.

Only Pro is good for amendment be modified or you can use other models?

Any Bolex Reflex 8 or 16 that has the lever behind the lens turret to allow for closing the shutter...These are variable shutter cameras...

How so? With the Nizo Pro, you should be able to get a 45 degree shutter already.

you are right, you can get a 45 deg. shutter with the nizo pro... but I wanted an even smaller shutter angle. Had to jam the shutter adjustment slider into a smaller position than the marked off 1/2 position. (you can do it with wooden coffee stir sticks or something like that for a quick fix). However you'll need to do some testing to see how much you'll need to compensate your exposure, as well to see if it is indeed holding the shutter in the right position or if it is slipping (the image will flicker if the the variable shutter is not locking into a position).

You should be able to do this with and NIZO that has a variable shutter. I've done it with the 800, 801 and Pro.
