Groovy! This is the first time Ive seen televised ads for super 8 equipment. The Bolex ad was sexy, the GAF ad was amusing and the Chinon ad was just a little too weird for my tastes. I have not seen the Orwo ad yet.

Thanks for the topic! I really love the design of the Bolex camera - looks like a "real" camera with that thing on top...

I´m sure such commercials would get great response if shown inbetween the usual ones nowadays.

So they had cheezy western-style adverts in East Germany! Wow! That is an eye opener!

There used to be some others on youtube which seem to have disappeared- for Kodak Instamatic movie cameras starring Dick van Dyke and another for the Ektasound camera.

I did find this though:

Whatever became of cartridge projectors?

Yeah, cool stuff. I put a couple of Bolex commercials on my website a few weeks ago. If anyone's interested, the articles have a little extra information:

1958 TV Commercial for Bolex Cameras
An article with a bit of history on Dowling's Camera Store and this commercial. I love this video.

TV Commercial for Bolex 155 Macrozoom
Google video version, but the same as the 155 Macrozoom video linked in this thread.

Both of these are from TVdays.com... I'm glad Ira Gallen's putting some of these things online. Here are some more:
Kodak Super 8
8mm Brownie and Keystone compilation
Eastman Kodak Company

I hope someone finds the Dick van Dyke instamatic movie camera ads, there's also one for the pocket instamatic 110 camera which he did too. I love the way the adverts were so sedate and informative. A refreshing change from today!

"Would you be interested in owning this camera?"

Actually, I'd be interested in owning *eight* of them! Which I do!

...okay, some are 150s and 160s...~:?)
