Doesn't have to be designed to do B&W as opposed to E-6 or can you change it yourself? Any idea? Eh. What a pain.
The magitrak is a MUCH larger and more versatile processor. It doesn't use a leader, but instead pulls the film through with magnets. Sounds weird, but that's what the web site says. It requires a lot more chemistry, it is intended for higher volume processing, it handles film up to 8 inches wide (8x10 sheets). It's a beauty and a beast. Not the best for home processing.
The little E6 machine would be better for home use unless you are processing a heck of a lot of film daily.
For E6 processing in that little Bray, I've been told that you need to process about 2 rolls of 35mm film (or equivalent) per day if you using a replenishing regimem, plus control strips, to keep the chemistry stable and properly seasoned.
The MagiTrack states "A unique, multi format (8mm to 320mm), medium volume continuous film processor incorporating the advantages of dip and dunk and leader processors, whilst maintaining the flexibility of a roller transport processor."
Nice when it actually says it does 8mm. I found a guy in the States who will sell one for $1800. It's the 5 inch table top model for E-6 processing (so only does up to 4 inch width, but uses half the amound of chemicals, or twice as much as the E-series). I was hoping I could talk him down in price, but I'm betting not. The E-series looks like it only does 100 feet at a time. The MagiTrack can do up to 1000 feet at a time. I'm beginning to think it's a better option, except for the use of more chemicals.
Not sure if it would be worth processing E-6, except I know many places in the city that sell it. I was under the impression however B&W reversal would be a better business direction for local work.
