Regular 8 / Double 8 Film

I learned yesterday that I will no longer be able to get film perforated as Regular 8 / Double 8 as of about October 1.

I am one roll from being sold out of Tri-X, but I have plenty of 50D available.

I also have 6000' of 3313 on hand and 4000' of V3 250d. I plan to perforate all the 3313 as Regular 8 / Double 8 so that prints can be made from negative film. I haven't shot any 250D as Regular 8 / Double 8, but I sort of suspect it would be a bit too grainy for that. So it will all be finished as 16mm 2R, for use in magazines. I just love shooting 250D in magazine cameras. Throw a filter on, it's fine for outdoors. Take the filter off, you can shoot in almost any interior situation.

That leaves me with the Tri-X problem. Tri-X is a wonderful film, and it's the only EK product that you can shoot, have processed relatively easily, and view on a projector. It's also the most popular, in terms of sales. So I'll be buying 4000' or 8000' of Tri-X and finishing as Regular 8 / Double 8.

After the perfing described above is complete, I won't be producing any more film.

They (wittner) are not trashing their machine I assume. Are they reluctant to wear out their machine or possibly costs are getting out of hand?
