adapting lens for Leicina Special
Hi,
so I have a Leicina Special and i need to do some night shooting. I bought a RAINBOW H6X8-II 8-48MM 1:1.0 cctv lens as my local shop had previously mounted successfully on a Beaulieu. Unfortunately their technician I saying he cant make changes to use on a Leicina - i think it was to do with distance from gate.
Does anyone have any ideas if I attempt to adapt it myself - I'd hate to just chuck it! How do I work out how close it needs to mount? I'm a new to all this so any help appreciated!

Re: adapting lens for Leicina Special
There are two problems here: the type of reflex system used and the flange focal distance.
The Leicina M-mount has a beamsplitter reflex viewing system like the Bolex Reflex cameras and has a flange focal distance of over 30mm.
Your Beaulieu has reciprocating mirror reflex system and has a flange focal distance of a little over 17.52mm.
Your technician is right; you could never get the lens close enough to the film to focus properly.
You can try it yourself. Just hold the Rainbow zoom as close as you can to the Leicina's front and see if you can get it to focus on wide angle.
The second issue is with the fact that you're trying to use a very fast zoom lens with a wide angle of 8mm on a beamsplitter reflex camera.
Read up on the effects of the Bolex prism and you can apply the same conclusions to the Leicina.

While this doesn't solve your problem, the Leicina Special instruction book indicates night-vision instruments can be adapted to the camera to allow its use in low light conditions. There's an illustration on page thirty-four of the manual showing such a light amplifier mounted on the camera. I expect such a solution wouldn't be cheap.Rabhickey wrote:Hi,

Wow OK that's annoying -the main reason I went to the expense of getting the LS is because of interchangeable lens - I will read up. Are there lens that would work fine on the camera at all stops (like the manual seems to suggest)?bolextech wrote:There are two problems here: the type of reflex system used and the flange focal distance.

The night vision apparatus might actually be cheaper. An $11.0K lens on a Leicina Special would be something to see.Joel Pierre wrote:http://us.leica-camera.com/photography/ ... /5915.htmlRabhickey wrote:… so I have a Leicina Special and i need to do some night shooting.
Re: adapting lens for Leicina Special
two other thoughts if I could get feedback off anyone
would the CANON 50mm 0.95 work on special?
also would a visoflex help use lens?
sorry I'm a bit technically 'limited'...

Re: adapting lens for Leicina Special
If you need a PL to M mount adapter so dearly it would be easiest to produce one yourself.
Find a M adapter for M42 thread or a M macro tube.
Find a budget PL receiver on eBay with a random base
Calculate the needed distances and length and shorten the M adapter such that the PL with part of its shortened base can be fixed to that. Possibly a support ring/washer may be needed. Don't forget this in the calculation
An outer holding tube may be an option too as there is little room between the flanges of both. The advantage of such a tube would be that it can more easily be adjusted for infinity. Better secure the fitting tight. You don't want your PL lens to drop off.
It may require the help of somebody with machining skills
Or a 3D printer.

Rabhickey,
You seriously have to undertake some lite reading on the difference between C and M mount camera registers instead of throwing out what-if lenses to the forum. It will become quickly apparent why the Canon f0.95 50mm C-mount lenses is not compatible.
AJ:
The Chinese have already machined your Leica M - PL mount adapter, i.e.
