My brain >> I clicked on the link here, which is always problematic, instead of opening a new tab and pasting the link in the url, which I just did, and which worked perfectly.mattias wrote:what didn't "work"? the website, the password, the actual clip?
And so....Wow! Looks fantastic. Locations, casting, cinematography....couldn't get the gist of any plot, what with Vimeo playing the audio all choppy on my street-rescued PC, and only a couple of subtitles showing, but I'm sure it's quite captivating.
Mattias, why does this look better than digitally captured TV shows like Dexter, with full budgets and Panavision cameras?

Hey Matt,
Footage looks great! Although I wouldn't expect anything less. Your work is always top notch

I would love to see this on the big screen.mattias wrote:no dvd release is really "in the works", but there will obviously be one. we're focusing on theatrical first, then tv, the reason being money of course.
For the dvd release it'll be good if there is a " Making Of" It's alway interesting to experience behind the scenes to see how it was all done.
Maybe for the next one eh?

yeah i love making of's, but while i was aware of it from the start we decided not to have a behind the scenes crew with us. many people volunteered to do it for free but it would have been a hassle. we shot 97 scenes and ~40 hours of material in 15 days and moving fast both physically and emotionally was crucial. i guess interviews and commentaries will have to suffice.

I Travel Because I Have to, I Come Back Because I Love You
Another small format feature, shot on super 8, DV and Hi8-to-DCP. 71 minutes. Apparently just screened in Venice and screening soon in Rio de Janeiro. Described thus:
“Beautifully structured and ultimately transcendent, "I Travel Because I Have to, I Come Back Because I Love You" is a road movie in its purest form, offering an affecting record of processing loss and coming through to the other side. …â€Â

yeah i heard about that one and was looking for a trailer or something to no avail. funny that the theme is kind of similar to mine, not that it's an uncommon one. they also shot some d90 i believe. i've been in contact with one of the dp's before so i guess i'll email him for some more info.

It's a shame I don't check this forum more than once a year and a half or so on average.
Obviously, the only super 8 camera that you could have relied on was a Leicina Special. Everything else would have given you jitters, focus breathing, and nastiness. Use a 10mm Cinegon, set on infinity focus, and you simply put the cartridges in and shoot with complete confidence.
Double super 8 would not have been an option, as all those cameras are as big as a 16mm -- and, as that's the case, then why in the world wouldn't you shoot 16mm? Also, there are no fast modern film stocks normally available in that format. Only a completely out of touch moron would even suggest double super 8.
Your eventual camera choice was clever, all things considered. I'll look into what you've posted in your links.
P.S. Stay away from these forums. You'll get virtually no sound advice, and you should know better by now. There are no professional filmmakers to be found here -- only hobbyists and failed filmmakers, usually with things to sell.

Out of interest, which are you; the hobbyist or the failed filmmaker? :roll:The Santo wrote:P.S. Stay away from these forums. You'll get virtually no sound advice, and you should know better by now. hehe, i actually enjoy talking to hobbyists about these things. i have a pretty good understanding of what it takes to make a feature since i've been a 1st ad on several and shot second unit on one, but no business person could ever tell me what it's like doing it on super 8 or an slr.The Santo wrote:P.S. Re: feature on super 8, a good idea?
Good point - I found you can still come up with something reasonable in retrospect just recounting the whole process and cutting in any relevant material you have -- not the same as having it filmed from the get go, but still worth the effort.mattias wrote:yeah i love making of's, but while i was aware of it from the start we decided not to have a behind the scenes crew with us. many people volunteered to do it for free but it would have been a hassle. we shot 97 scenes and ~40 hours of material in 15 days and moving fast both physically and emotionally was crucial. i guess interviews and commentaries will have to suffice.
Anyway this film looks really good - can't wait to see it - congratulations again!
