Canon 9V Power Pack

Post by RichardB »

Has anyone tried using an alternative to one of these for their 814 XL-S or 1014 XL-S? From what I understand the Canon one used 6 x 'D' type batteries to produce 9V, has anyone tried using an alternative battery source, or a clone of the power pack that uses the same batteries? How well did it work?

Hi, the canon power pack used 6 c-type cells, think it was designed for extended time lapse projects or cold enviroments. Have emailed you btw.

Thanks Andy, got the email

I might try build or buy one at some point then if they work well for time lapse, I've always been tempted to do some time lapse footage of Bradford or Nottingham but was worried about batteries failing on me.

I know somewhere that is selling one of the original 9v power packs for a very reasonable price.
Incidentaly I use one of those cheap variable power packs to power my 1014xls when shooting indoors.....saves loads on batteries....just need to ensure that the polarity is correct :D

IF YOU ARE OUTDOORS YOU NEED A BATTTERY BACK elmo and chinon/canon made them and they can be home made with some effort .Be carefull of polarity . You are better off with battery because the ac gizmo is not accurate as to voltage supplied and MAY kill your camera .

If you read my posts I clearly stated that when SHOOTING INDOORS I use the power adapter.
I have measured the output voltages on the unit I use using ameter the slight deviations away from the stipulated voltages will in no way harm your camera.I also clearly stated that you must ensure the polarity is correct.
