ORWO UN 54 Negative/Reversal

Post by alex-rus »

Wittner Kinotechnik sells ''Orwo Un 54'' b&w film
The price is much less, than Plus-X and Tri-X

What results can be received with ''Un 54'' ?

I shot a roll of DS-8mm UN54 and was impressed with the results. I think it is a superior film stock to Fomopan, and has a different look than Tri-X. I wish it was readily available in DS-8mm... we really need a good B+W stock in this format.
If Plus-x or Tri-X was available in DS-8mm I don't know if I would use UN54 over those stocks unless I wanted the look.

I have shot some 16mm and S8 (reloading Single 8 and Super 8 carts) I always develop myself in lomo tank and the images are great.
UN54 has more latitude than PlusX or Foma R100, for me is better than Foma, is less contrastly with rich grays.
a UN54 DS8 will be great

UN54 is available in DS8. It is available from KAHL as KAHL 24. Also available from John Schwind as Supercine-X 200. From JS the price is $16/25ft spool and $30/100ft spool. Also available as Supercine-X in regular 8.

Great news John! What a bargain! That equates to only $7.50 per 50ft ... DS-8mm rocks. 8)

Avr,

I've shot both FOMA and ORWO and i develop both films in Lomo tanks too, but i disagree that FOMA has low latitude, what formula do you use for developing it?

Did you develop ORWO has reversal?

I find ORWO a very good emulsion, but i don't think is so far superior to FOMA or Plus-x
