Frame Master

Post by hellesdonfilms »

Has anyone used Andec's Fram Master for Super 8 cartidges?

Do they make a real difference to registration and picture quality?

I was thinking of buying one but as they are quite expensive I'd like to hear if anyones had any experiences with them before going ahead.

you may get an impression here:
http://andecfilm.de/en/e_demo-bildstand.htm
however, dont expect miracels. normally it will offer improvements but there are variables in cam design, cam wear, filmstock variation, perfing, lubrication etc which will influence.

generally with negative stocks ive seen improvements but never "rock steady".

my dos euro centavos.

As much as I know, they developed their pressure plate especially for that past heavy jitter problem you can see examples of on their site, and that Scot suffered from while shooting In my image. Otherwise, it's pretty useless.

- Shot with Canon 1014 XL-S (with 150 degree angle shutter),
- Shot Vision2 200 and 500 T negative stocks with frame master
- Used indoor shots a lot of light (about 4 kW) with a lot of fog
- Kept in my mind during shootings, that finally we'll crop the image to 2.35 aspect ratio using my fingers at the rear of lens during image composition process before starting the rolling camera with film
- Films were prosessed and transfered via Andec
That's it.

I love it! So much for modifying the VF...I've noticed re-transferring older 4:3 stuff I and others have shot that usually the image can be letterboxed with no loss of important info; folks seem to frame for widescreen naturally.

Your clips are outstanding. Way to go!

Nice looking stuff. My only complaint was the specks of dust, which are always a killer on negative film.

Also nice to see someone using depth of field, as per some of the recent discussions on this forum.

Hi Matt I'm on Wintel so can't use your FCP plug in - but just wondering did you automate the process? When I cleaned up Sleeping On Her couch I went through and did it by hand using photoshop to clone out the dust specs it was a very effective, though time consuming method. Just wondering how you approached it in your plug in?

Probly doesn't f*ck up your brain like the alcohol wetgate I use, either. [who said that?]

Back to the framemaster - anybody got any pics? Could the thing not be knocked off using some smooth plastic or sumthin?

I haven't used mine in a year, but it can make a difference. I get a lot better stability in slomo with it. I should use it next time, had some mild jitter with 64T at 54fps. the plate should cure it. I had a high milage 1014E that quit advancing when the plate was in. So I'd stick with a strong running camera.

This is so interesting since I haven't ever had any kind of jitters when going slomo. Slomo has allways been very solid for me, done it with Nizo 4080 and Beaulieu 7008S. But I know many people use FM plate when going hi-speed. I would use FM only when shooting 24/25, but then again I don't have this plate anymore, cos I know I can do slomo without and slomo is what I like anyways.
