Re: Using prepaid mailers for 15m rolls

I've used a few of Wittner's prepaid B/W Super 8 mailers. No problems encountered. Turnaround time was about 3-4 weeks.

Re: Colour film, 1927

As a matter of fact, this project started even as early as 1924. Claude Friese-Greene, son of cinema pioneer William Friese-Greene, developed this 'Natural Colour Process'. I've seen both an extract from an analogue VHS version of the unenhanced original footage, as well as a digitally enhanced vers...

Re: Occupy Film

Sounds interesting. Not sure how much I could contribute - other than a few seconds worth of Tri-X footage from the Bristol Occupy camp back in October. Or were you thinking of shooting new footage (in which case time is probably running out fairly soon)?

Re: Beaulieu Mar8 shutter speeds?

I can't help you with this particular model, but having just looked up the shutter speeds of my Pro8 Beaulieu 4008, it looks like it's pretty much the same. I couldn't find anything definite about the shutter angle, but would say that it represents a shutter angle of around 100 degrees - quite narro...

Re: Vision 3 50 D

I'm sure we've got better things to do than shooting ourselves in the foot by suggesting which film stocks Kodak should ditch for Super 8. With regards to Vision3 200T, Peter Rosza from Szeged Super 8 Film Festival sent me (and possibly some others on this forum) today a link to a film shot on this ...

Re: Orwo North America

Good to hear that a film manufacturer expands these days! Just for information: Wittner in Germany has provided Orwo UN54 in both Standard8 and Super8 for quite a few years now. In case you're interested what it looks like, here are a couple of films I shot with this stock: http://vimeo.com/7559016 ...

Re: Lomography introduces handcranked 35mm Lomokino Movie Ca

Welcome to the forum, Terence, and congratulations on having started off with a well-balanced, intelligent post (especially in a thread such as this!). I actually do agree that the Lomokino might be a good 'starting-out-in-using-film' toy for kids. Then again, having looked up your choice of present...

Re: Point of emulating Super 8 imperfections

Just like I know people already who think that all vinyl records sound crackly. I've even got a plugin for audio software called "analogize" (the name itself is so wrong) which simply adds lots of scratches and pops to your audio track. When I downloaded it I thought maybe it smoothed the...

Gentlemen, Today I have to announce my stunning invention which, I am assured by my two year old great-grandson, is the greatest thing since sliced bread. (...) Can anyone think of something better? I await, with bated breath, your suggestions and inevitable accolades. Humbly yours, Granfer. This s...

Re: S1 question

Sounds exactly the same as an Agfa Movex Regular 8 camera I've got. Now I wouldn't have thought that you need the batteries to operate the manual exposure control. My suspicion when I encountered this problem with the Agfa was that the aperture control is just altogether stuffed, but I'd be happy fo...

Re: Are you also collecting super 8mm packed films?

I wouldn't really call myself a collector, but I did buy a few 8mm and Super 8 film prints that I occasionally watch. My favourite is a Regular 8 print of Buster Keaton's Blacksmith that is in superb condition. Interestingly, a couple of scenes on the VHS version I've got of this film were obviously...

Are apples better than oranges? I don't think so. They're just different, that's all. Which one you prefer depends on what you want to do with it. Do you want to make cider? Or Cointreau?

Just for my own research (in trying to find the cheapest deal possible!) - I'm compiling a list of Super 8 processing labs - so far I've got: (...) Wittner (Germany) (...) As far as I know, Wittner aren't actually a processing lab. They do sell process-paid Super 8 cartridges that you can send back...

Re: Sekonic 80P projector question

To answer my own question: I wasn't missing a trick. The power and speed selectors just need a lot of violence and determination to come off. Luckily the projector looks still okay, so I'll soon get a new belt and hopefully put it back into action.

Sekonic 80P projector question

Just got back three rolls of Standard 8 film from Andec and enjoyed watching two of them on my manual-feed Sekonic 80P projector. Unfortunately, at the end of the second reel, the belt broke. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to open up the projector properly. All I could figure out is that I have t...
