Re: Just Outta Curiosity: Film or digital

I would have thought that number 2 is digital. The first picture has more colour saturation and appears to have a bit of grain (although it's hard to tell without a better resolution).

Re: Do I need a macro Super 8?

in my limited experience of animation, as long as the camera is over 18 inches away from the subject then there is no need for macro. It depends on the camera. My Canon AutoZoom 814E wouldn't be able to focus on anything closer than 6 feet or thereabout, unless it's used in macro mode. There are, h...

Re: Anyone want a cheapy copy of In My Image?

Scot has already sold it - to me. It's Region 0 PAL, and the covers weren't actually as bad as I thought. Watched the film yesterday - quite an impressive debut feature.

Re: Another Newbie in 8mm Filming

I've got an old Weston ciné light meter myself that still works a treat. So yes, one of the ones you've been looking at would be suitable. Just one word of warning: Weston light meters measure film speed in 'Weston speed', similar to ASA, but not quite the same. If you use ASA 100 film, you will ...

Re: After the arguement

Excellent acting and well-edited. I'm wondering what you said to her to make her so upset :?

For a dying camera, the picture strikes me as still very good.

Charlie

PS. On a slightly pedantic note: is the typo in 'arguement' deliberate?

Re: could this be the future for kodak ?

Sounds like a good idea! Probably wouldn't be the future for all of Kodak, but certainly a good way to keep a few more people employed and get that idle machinery back to work for a sensible purpose.

Re: Do I need a macro Super 8?

(i.e. I can clearly focus on a pc keyboard key from about an inch away) I would have thought that this is the macro setting you're using, although it may be called something different. Happy for anyone to correct me. Personally I've got a Canon AutoZoom 814E that I've been using fairly regularly ov...

Re: What are people working on?

Really good to hear what everyone's up to. As for myself, the big one I'm planning to do is a feature length film based on Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique. As kind of preparation for it, I'll be off to Italy and France this summer to make a short documentary about Berlioz (all to be shot on Super 8 )...

Re: 16mm Sound Film to DVD

Hi Geoff. Welcome to the forum. My sympathies to you - this sounds like a bit of a nightmare to resolve. What's the soundtrack like? Is it just some kind of voiceover/background music where it doesn't matter if it's out of synch by a couple of seconds or so - or are we talking about lipsynch and suc...

Does film cement keep forever?

A friend recently presented me with a 1964 Eumig P8 projector. One of the things I found inside the box was a half-empty, small bottle of film cement that probably dates from around the same time as the projector. Looks very much okay to me, although I haven't yet tried it out. This made me wonder: ...

Re: Tripod

I bought a Velbon D600 tripod years ago, which cost me less than GBP100 and does pretty much all you require. It's good for travelling (thanks to being lightweight), and I've used it for Super 8 cameras as well as digital camcorders (including Canon XM2). Only qualification is that it is a bit 'chea...

Re: 2000 fps is considered revolutionary?

According to this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_speed_photography
even 25 million frames per second shouldn't be considered revolutionary (and yes, that's film-based - see the chapter under 'Rotating Mirror').

Not quite sure what a camera like this would make of said leg though.

Nothing wrong with contrast in this project, I think it works really well.

Re: Using prepaid mailers for 15m rolls

Thank-you for the answer Charlie, could you precise if you have used these mailers for rolls or for cartridges ? If it was for rolls, how were they packaged ? Sorry for the misunderstanding. The prepaid mailers I used were for cartridges. I'm not aware of Wittner doing this service for rolls (altho...

Re: Current UK cheap/good UK HD super-8 transfer recommendat

Not exactly in the UK, but apart from that, Uppsala Bildteknik would meet all your (other) requirements. I used them a couple of times, rare combination of good, cheap and fast.
