Re: Windows Movie Maker is hindering my progress to youtube

WMV is a bit vague, as it can come in all sorts of flavours. Having just done a bit of a search for optimum youtube settings, I found the following post on Shooting Peopole UK filmmakers network from about a year ago: Try this: Size 480 x 360 pixels PhotoJPEG compression at quality HIGH 75%. Sound I...

Re: The Truth About 2K, 4K and The Future of Pixels

Just out of interest: Has anyone ever established how many pixels you would need to match the molecular structure of 8mm (and 16mm, 35mm, 70mm,...) celluloid?

Re: This can't be good

I work as financial administrator for a university, and while I'm not familiar with the scale of figures produced in this thread, I can assure you that in my own little domain of finances, I could easily present 'good' or 'bad' or 'very ugly' figures, depending what's desired, even without cheating....

Re: why use R8 - a new film project

I know this may sound absurd, but one of the attractions I find in Regular 8 is the additional inconvenience compared to Super 8, when it comes to loading the film. No real advantage, of course; however it's a good stepping stone to 16mm (and possibly larger) film formats, and my logic was that Regu...

Re: Titles of computerscreen

It depends what your computer screen is like. I guess it's an LCD screen, so you shouldn't have trouble with the frame rate. As for trusting the internal light meter - well, you probably can, but make sure the titles have good contrast. Also, a computer screen tends to be quite dim, so I found it ne...

Re: the neverending story of the future of super 8

9.5mm film has been more or less obsolete for half a century - and film stock is still readily available. So long as this is the case, I wouldn't even start to worry about Super 8. In terms of technological changes, there is, of course, one big difference between the advent of video in the early 198...

Re: bolex paillard questions

There were plenty of different Paillard-Bolex H8 and H16 around. Best to have a look at http://www.bolexcollector.com/cameras.html yourself and find out what camera it is. In any case, it will only be EITHER an H8 OR an H16, not both (and hence will either take 16mm film or Standard 8, which, of cou...

Re: The Dead Next Door

Having just looked it up on imdbPro, they quote an estimated cost of 75,000 dollars. Unfortunately, they don't have any box office takings (or DVD sales figures, for that matter). I guess 75k makes it 'next to nothing' when compared to other feature films, but it's a lot more than I could afford.

Re: Home movies

I've made some short films over the last few years on Super 8 and Standard 8, but I also regularly use these formats to make holiday movies or to film friends and family. I agree that 8mm is great to be used in this way, and when you watch the footage with your friends, it's much more of an event th...

Re: What price Super 8 film! Something has to give...

The point of shooting DV is not only the price of recording stock, it's also that it's much easier for basic stuff - i.e. you don't need to learn about film stocks, f stops, depth of field and all these things. However, I think shooting Super 8 for semi- or truly professional movies actually can wor...

Re: New Music Video, tri-x cross processed, Automatic Erasers

That's really awesome! Very impressed with the wide depth of field during the live concert. Even with an f1.0 lens, I would have never thought that Tri-X could cope in such low light. I need to check out this cross-processing blog.
