Sankyo EM-60XL issues?

I just got a Sankyo EM-60XL from Ebay that quit working just after opening the box (the camera looks brand new, definitely used very little). The power-light still lights up, and I can hear the trigger firing, but the motor doesn't run. I tried pulling it apart to see if anything looked wrong and co...

Re: Canon 814 super8 - Battery Corrosion - doesn't work. Repair $ cost?

the handle on these, I have found, are pretty easy to remove and disassemble. If you have found the corrosion so extreme that you cannot clean it out (I use rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs) you could always buy a beater "parts only" camera and try replacing the whole handle

Re: 16mm

My big issue with the filmo 70 is that every one I have ever held is double-perf, which pretty much just makes it a paper-weight to me. I'll stick with my ACL, S/B, and Beaulieu reflex control (depending upon what I'm shooting) as for the new Kodak Super8 camera, I am excited to finally have a Super...

Re: 16mm

That's awesome! I too have noticed more people interested in learning Super8 and 16mm (I work at the NW Film Center in Portland, Oregon, and we have had to keep adding workshops to keep up with demand). I would love to know more about your battery setup, I've had bad luck with modern batteries on my...

Re: What have you been working on lately?

Back in August I shot a bunch of footage of the Eclipse here in Oregon with my Éclair ACL. I made an initial edit with my own music, but then altered it to fit a Ryuichi Sakamoto track to enter a short-film competition: https://vimeo.com/235830553 also, my previous film, Corpse Quatrain ( https://yo...

Re: kodak

50D is sold out on their site. If it comes back, all is well. If it gets discontinued, then if worry. I don't think they're sold out...try calling the 800 number. That retail web site has always been a little strange about products coming on and off. Fascinating that B&H is selling Super 8 film...

Re: kodak

how dour. I'd be very saddened if Kodak were to fail and I'd probably go bankrupt myself stockpiling film should they completely dissolve. I do have to say, however, that we (the nw film center) sold more film in the last 2 months than at any point while I've been working there (and Kodak was out of...

Re: Bolex 525XL info?

okay, so after playing around with it, I figured out the left switch is a Run-Lock...

but after doing more research, it looks like some claim that this camera is capable of manual exposure... but I cannot for the life of me figure out how this is achieved. I'm betting that it's a Super8wiki error

Bolex 525XL info?

Hi everyone, I work at the NW Film Center in Portland, Oregon, and we have an old Bolex 525 XL Super-8 camera... problem is that several of the labels have fallen off, so we're not sure exactly what some of the switches do. On the left-hand side of the camera there are two switches, I know the right...

Re: Lens for turret of H8 reflex

Well, I'm not sure about the H8RX lenses, but my experience with the 16mm Switar lenses leads me to believe that it is merely a label. My 10mm, 16mm, 25mm lenses are all capable of macro focus, and none of them are labeled as "macro-switar".

Re: Film storage

is there any issue with plastics and cardboard with regards to preservation? I was always under the impression that film should be stored horizontally in metal cans with minimal plastics or packing materials

Re: The 16mm to HD, 4K or 2k Question

I'd say 2K for 1.37 material, as it allows you to either crop down or down-rez for 1080p (not that 4k wouldn't allow for this either, it just seems like a lot of wasted space for academy ratio material)... if it was Super16 4k would be nice.

But... if you have the budget go big!

Re: What have you been working on lately?

I finished a short film recently made as a segment for an "exquisite corpse" project. I shot it on 16mm (on 17 year old EXR 50D & Vision 250D) with my "new" Éclair ACL with a set of switar primes (16mm, 75mm, 25mm, 50mm): https://youtu.be/4Sab8BLhAJY next time I really need t...
