Re: Orwo North America

Here's an interesting movie shot with both Orwo UN54 and Kodachrome on 16mm: http://vimeo.com/31523919 However, they stated that they had some problems with sprocket spacing. I wonder if those problems have been taken a look by ORWO -- the film was shot in 2005, so I guess they have at least had the...

Re: Hip hop super-8 clip

Just that nobody gets the wrong idea-- the example in the post above is only about the ghosting issue. Other than that my Beaulieu has produced excellent results. When this small problem is sorted out this is certainly a dream camera! :)

Re: Hip hop super-8 clip

However, there must be some problems with the film transport -- or with the shutter -- because otherwise there wouldn't be ghosting. I'm assumng you or Cinelicious looked at individual frames on a viewer to verify its a problem with the Beaulieu. That is an odd problem! Yes, they did that. But I do...

Re: Hip hop super-8 clip

Thank you for the encouraging comments! I don't see a registration problem. There is ghosting on about half the shots. Shot selection, camera work, and editing are good. Well yes, technically it isn't the most common registration problem, the image doesn't weave up and down. However, there must be s...

Hip hop super-8 clip

Just a project I got finished today. Thanks to Cinelicious for great telecine service! Shot on Vision3 & Vision2 200T & 500T with max8 modified Beaulieu 4008 ZM. The camera had very bad registration problem despite being serviced just before the shoot. Have to find out the cause and get it f...

Re: Video finally surpasses film's dynamic range?

As HDRx has to mix two images with different lighting settings, it doesn't really work perfectly with every shot. Think about water, for example: different shutter speeds means that those two will look somewhat different. How visible it is in the mix -- I don't know -- but that's something to keep i...

Re: How popular is this site?

I well remember that time, I got into super-8 then. It was really wild even here in Finland, the Finnish main forums for hobbyist & semi pro videographers got a very active super-8 user base from 2003-2005. Now it seems I'm almost the only one writing there, aside from the random posters asking ...

Re: When was the last time you shot real movie film?

Okay, we had the shoot today. 8 rolls of Vision3 and Vision2 :) Day progressed very smoothly except for realizing at one point that the director (my wife) had given me once a 500T instead of 200T, and I had overexposed it two stops. My bad though for not giving specific instructions when asking her ...

Re: When was the last time you shot real movie film?

Shot today one cartridge of old Vision2 200T to test camera before real action, tomorrow possibly some seven cartridges of Vision3? :)

Re: Canon 1014/814 & Beaulieu

Well, it's certainly true that Beaulieu cameras require their own batteries. They can be, however, bought as new: http://www.beaulieu.de/pages/s8_azub8.php One can also buy a contact block and external batteries or power up the camera directly from wall. I guess it comes back to what you want to use...

Re: Introducting a new ultra-wide film format called UltraPa

After reperforated 16mm film is available, is it possible to fit in a 30,5m/100ft load? To answer the part of this quote that Bolextech missed in his answer..... "re-perforated 16mm film" is ALREADY available... it always has been and is known as "Double 8". It's the availabilit...

Re: Introducting a new ultra-wide film format called UltraPa

So is this modification built around the H8RX or the H16RX? After reperforated 16mm film is available, is it possible to fit in a 30,5m/100ft load?

Re: Super 8 or 16?

I should have mentioned the budget. I just finished the script, so this is only a rough estimate, but I'd say at least 10,000 dollars (about 7,000 Euros?). The film length will be 10-12 minutes. Do you have to pay your team and actors? If not... with that kind of budget I'd go for 16mm, if the choi...

Re: Super 8 or 16?

I'd add one con for using super-8: unpredictability. This means that there might be some hiccups which wouldn't emerge when using loaded film vs super-8 cartridges. Also image stability might be an issue. However, I really think it depends on what kind of production you want to have. If it's more &q...
