Re: The State of Double Super 8

Just to clarify, I'm speculating about DS8 equipment. My writing above was a little sloppy.

I'm pretty sure they would have dumped that before R8.

Re: The State of Double Super 8

EK does not have perforating machines for R8 or DS8. When they closed the Windsor, CO facility they scrapped much/most of the equipment. EK does not own an R8 perforator, at least as of about 1.5 years ago. I imagine DS8 was even lower priority than R8. Wittner had the ability to perf DS8 before the...

Re: Battery Suggestions

No such thing as a dead battery belt/pack. Just re-cell it.

These guys do great work and charge reasonable prices:

I've sent them a gnarly Arri OBB-2 or two and their work was perfect.

Re: Kodak Film Prices

Reality: They coated one master sheet only. They did this because they could not source more ingredients initially. So they converted some of the master sheet, and it sold out. Then they converted more, and it will sell out soon. The master sheet is either gone or almost gone at this point. Another ...

That looks suspiciously like it's negative film.

Re: Kodak Film Prices

I didn't mean to sound snooty, and I don't have money to burn. I also think $40 is high and that the price will limit sales. That notwithstanding, EK does have very high costs and a much smaller denominator now. I believe, based on discussion I had with an EK employee, that the current batch of E100...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

Pricing below long-run average costs is a very short-sighted plan also. Eastman Kodak ("EK") has a small product base and revenue stream. Yet they have huge overhead. A coating line + building that sits there all year but for the few times that it coats a master sheet is extremely expensiv...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

"There would be howls of protest on Cinematography Forums if they were to sell 100' of 16mm Ektachrome for $160!"

16mm x 100' 7285 was fetching $200ish on ebay before new Ektachrome was announced...

Re: Kodak Film Prices

This is a costly endeavor for EK. We need to buy as much product as we can, with smiles on our faces, and hope that our demand is sufficient to keep the coating line running.

I have a secret. Please don't tell anyone.

Dwayne's has S8 E100 in stock, as well as 35mm E100.

Be nice to the wonderful people there, please. And remember to send them your film to them for processing. We need a reliable processor with high volume capabilities to survive. Dwayne's is the one.

Ektachrome in hand!

Ok, it's not cine film, but I still think this is noteworthy. I was at Central Camera in Chicago today and I was surprised to see E100 on the shelf. It was the new stuff, and it had arrived less than an hour before I did. They didn't have any S8 yet, so I bought 35mm. Plan to shoot first roll on Wed...

Re: Ilford Colorcine 8mm film

It makes me feel good when I hear about places *starting* to stock film. Remarkable. I hope more establishments start selling film.

I was actually in an art store today and was surprised to see several flavors of 135 film available. Apparently, a nearby community college has a photography class.
