Re: Using a MiniDv camera as a tape deck

I would agree with those who advise RE-PACKING new tape. It's way to prevent any slippage that may occur with a tape that has been transported. I personally do not do it with mini DV tape. Since the information is digital on the tape, any gaps in tape time should get fixed when it is being read off ...

Re: Recording sound

Wow. A lot of posts on here. Good luck selling the film Dave. why not just put it on Ebay a roll at a time? So what are you asking for that Nagra again? It looks beautiful. Wanting more input I emailed an audio engineer friend who has done horror movie soundtracks and loads of TV work. I figured I'd...

Recording sound

I realize this is a film forum, yet sound is half of the end product. -Do any of you use a separate sound recording unit to capture sound. what brands what's good and cheap and could take a xlr input. -I am interested in recording very small sounds. Any thoughts on how to get these sounds on tape? -...

Re: Just wanted to share my latest...

I had trouble viewing it through the site. Still I was really impressed with the quality of your work. Very nice. The color is what really impressed me. Did you have the colorist really sweeten the image for you in the transfer? It looks great! What did you edit on? Did you do much color correction ...

Re: Quicktime file size for web sties?

QT has so many variables it's hard to decide what to do. - what compressor you use will give you different file sizes. - What frame size you use will also affect this. - what frame rate is another variable. It is possible to make multiple movies of different sizes and have all of them on the site. T...

Re: HELP! Camera maintenance manuals?

Ok, I figured I should update my progress. I will have to take some stills of it so other people know how to get this thing apart. The chassis has some side panels that need to come off. The way to do this is actually simple once you get brave about it. - There is a small panel next to the camera st...

Re: HELP! Camera maintenance manuals?

Thanks for the replies. I suppose I should've said I don't want to spend any money on this. I'm laid off from my job right now, thank you economy, no money for toys and things. I did find some links to places where manuals where about 60-70 $ which seems too much to me. So if anyone else has experie...

Re: Preperation for Youtube

I do not like youtube because they use too much compression. I just uploaded some videos to viddler and feel they do a better job of preserving the original image. There seems to be less macro blocking of the images on their server. Here are some samples, sorry it's video not film, but you can see t...

Re: HELP! Camera maintenance manuals?

If they can put it together I can take it apart. I've had to calibrate video heads within 1.5 microns tolerance before. Human hairs are 30 microns. A Super 8 camera can't be so difficult. I just need a diagram.

Does anyone have a manual for this?

HELP! Camera maintenance manuals?

I have a friends Canon 814 zoom. Not the super fancy 814, just the one with the flip down handle. It got smoked. I wasn't there, but the word smoke came up frequently when I asked about it's break down/jam. I suspect the gears jammed and then she tried to keep using it and she burned out the motor. ...
