Australian Road Trip in the 1970's on Super 8mm
Here's some footage that came with an editor I bought ages ago - Miles transferred it for me - there's a lot of fun nostalgia in here - even if you're not Australian I would suspect -- it's all a world gone by now!

16mm footage of Apollo 11's engines
This just came up as a random youtube reccomendation to me - and I'm pretty glad it did - it's amazing. Just the feat of filming it, let alone what they're actually filming

Re: Samples from In My Image 4k scan - down to HD
Ha! Comparing my little effort to those films is pretty funny! But I get your point and yes I will be keeping it as 4:3. I haven't done any more on it lately as I'm right in the middle of shooting another feature at the moment, and doing this was always going to be a slow motion job anyway -- but I'...

Re: Samples from In My Image 4k scan - down to HD
Ha! Yeah I agree 16:9 isn't really film - I'd love to crop it all the way in to 1.85:1 or something but I don't think the resolution will stand up to itmattias wrote:There's no 16:9 film format what is this a TV show? I vote for 1.85:1.

Re: feature on super 8, a good idea?
what about you guys? any films? super 8 or otherwise? Yep I'm about to start a feature next year about a homeless girl - we'll be using a Canon DSLR. When I did In My Image we picked Super 8 because it was either that or miniDV which I didn't really like - I could possibly shoot on Super 8 again if...

Re: 697 Small Gauge Cameras To Be Auctioned
Wow that must have hurt having to put them up for auction :( :(( You better get the auction house to check the pictures though - these two are wrong https://connect.invaluable.com/levine/auction-lot/Beaulieu-7008-Pro-Cine-8-S8-Camera_793468FA90/ That's a Canon 814 I think and https://connect.invalua...

Re: Samples from In My Image 4k scan - down to HD
I vote for 16x9. ;) You would crop the current image quite a bit, but if you do a detailed job you can really get some nice framing that fits modern screens really well - more work though. I agree Andreas that in principal the framing would work, but I reckon based on the example there it just gets...

Oh yeah - Miles did use the electronic one!RyanH wrote:I hope you made sure to use the electronic shutter on the camera and not the mechanical one, otherwise you are going to kill your mechanism in a hurry doing this.

Re: Samples from In My Image 4k scan - down to HD
I'm thinking at this stage I might keep it as 4:3 and just crop in (at the same aspect ratio) on the shots that have vinjetting, to get past that. The degreee you have to crop in to make it 16:9 means I'm probably at the same resolution as regular 8 or less?? And it's probably nice keeping it at the...

Samples from In My Image 4k scan - down to HD
So I picked up all of the rolls and the 4K scan of In My Image from Miles yesterday - all 2 terrabytes of it - I think each 400 foot roll took 15 hours or something to transfer :-o So anyway I've had a quick play - and it's all pretty promising - but wow - what a lot of work - remastering this is a ...
