Re: Bolex External Motor Repair

Did you ask Duall about repairing ESM motors?

Sorry, I've just now seen your query. I didn't ask about the ESM motors but may do so. I expect a case-by-case evaluation would be needed and, if it's a matter of parts (as with my MST motors), I think the answer won't be encouraging. Du-All did say ...

Re: Zeiss Distagon T* Lenses Pricing

Either the respective prices are somewhat arbitrary or I'm missing some subtle difference in the lenses. My curiosity arises from the fact that I own an example of the 8mm lens and wide angle lenses like it are often pricier.

Re: Bolex External Motor Repair

I queried Bolex International through their website on 10 February regarding repairers for the motors and have gotten no response. I can't say I'm surprised.

Re: Bolex External Motor Repair

I've never heard of a 'repair café' and expect there isn't one in my locale. Even if there was, circuit diagrams for the MST motors surely would be needed. It's discouraging that the Bolex 'factory authorized' service facilities I've contacted won't accept the motors for repair.

Re: Bolex External Motor Repair

I finally contacted Du-All and, with their guidance, found the MST motors have electrical issues, not lubrication issues. Du-All doesn't have parts for their repair, so they're essentially paperweights.

Re: Bolex External Motor Repair

I've contacted other potential repairers in the USA. Technological Cinevideo Services, which claims to be a Bolex factory authorized service facility, said they wouldn't work on the motors, referring me to Visual Products, who also declined the work and referred me to AZ Spectrum. I just received a ...

Zeiss Distagon T* Lenses Pricing

Adorama has listed two Carl Zeiss Distagon lenses at eBay.com – listing nos. 235680551893 and 256776534790 – that would appear to be of the same kind, each with f/2.0 maximum apertures, each with T* coatings, each in similar condition, and each intended for the 16mm format. The 8mm lens with PL ...

Re: Bolex External Motor Repair

Thanks. They're a possibility. I've checked the fuses in the Bolex motors and wonder if it isn't just a case of the lubricants 'drying out'. I have Tobin motors for the Bolex H-series cameras of only slightly newer vintage than the Bolex motors, and they continue to run well.

Bolex External Motor Repair

I've a number of Bolex EM, ESM, and MST motors that, because of lack of use, have ceased operating. All were running properly when I acquired them. Can anyone recommend (preferably through personal experience) a repairer for these motors in the USA (I've just learned Procam in Arizona no longer ...

Jurgen Lossau's Super 8 Magazine

I've had annual subscriptions to Jurgen Lossau's SUPER8 magazine, with four issues promised each year, but the last issue I received was #5, dated April 2022. That's one issue of this small, slender magazine for an overseas subscription rate of, as I recall, 65 Euros. Has anyone received later ...

Re: Seized Filter Holder/Adapter

The machine shop reported everything had been cross-threaded but is now working smoothly & easily. The previous owner managed to cross-thread everything AND drive it all the way home; it must've taken quite an effort.

Re: Seized Filter Holder/Adapter

Factory markings on the lenshood and filter/holder adapter indicate they're compatible ( viz , both are marked 20x12 20x15). This metal lenshood, made expressly for Angénieux 12 x 240mm and 15 x 300m lenses, is uncommon, so I've arranged to send it to a machine shop here in the USA specializing in ...

Re: Seized Filter Holder/Adapter

To the naked eye, threads on the hood and on the filter/holder adapter seem fine, but they must be deformed somehow. There's no foreign material in them, and yet, even after I was able to start the filter holder/adapter turning with the strap wrench, it needed the strap wrench to remove it all the ...

Re: Seized Filter Holder/Adapter

With my bandsaw, I fabricated a wood block with radiused ends that allowed me to secure the lenshood very firmly between the dogs of my Ulmia bench. I protected the outside of the hood with non-slip rubber mats and, using a strap wrench, managed to unscrew the filter holder/adapter. I've not yet ...
