Re: Introducting a new ultra-wide film format called UltraPa
Anybody thought of milling out an H8 gate and sticking it in an H16? Treat it like DS8...so the film has to be flipped but you'll get a nice wide frame. It would only work for video conversion and even then on telecine machines that can zoom in on a specific part of the frame.

Re: Appeal for help!
It kinda looks like an Athena in terms of functionality. If you look at the bottem of the sheet you'll see a reference to the IBM AT. This tells me it's vintage. That and the font on the sticker which was the first tip off.

Re: Are there any regular 8mm cameras that run at 70fps?
The diff between r8 and s8 is huge. Not sure how you can't see the difference Hmmm….that depends on what medium you’re referring to and the level of magnification. When viewed on an average sized screen, regular 8mm is not that impressive at all – the projected image is soft and...

Re: Are there any regular 8mm cameras that run at 70fps?
I'm considering getting into regular 8mm and am looking at cameras that offer a particularly high frame rate. I know that the Bolex H8 and Canon Reflex Zoom 8 both offer 64fps as their stop speed which is quite impressive. However, are there any R8mm cameras that can get up to 70fps or even faster?...

Re: Can someone teach me a few things about projector lamps?
I've never heard of a bulb that was made to last 15 hours. It's a great business plan...in a way. I have a xenon lamp unit out of a BMW that I've been thinking about using to retrofit into a projector. The bulbs last hundreds of hours and put out that nice bright white light. And working with 12v i...

Re: where is widened super8 gates going?
I believe I can see a slight difference in Super 16 vs. Regular 16mm when cropped/enlarged & scanned to HD; but just barely. Much depends on the stock and lighting. But with Super 8 I wonder if it is worth it. I would first try to go anamorphic before widening the gate. Of course there are memb...

Re: What's the most exciting thing happening in Super 8 righ
Well, Scott... ...Jean-Louis Seguin has just modified my Bolex H16 Rex-4 and inserted the H8 film transport to produce an exciting new native spherical 8mm Cinemascope format (1:2.4). The actual frame area = 10.52mm x 3.75mm (1:2.8) and is wider than Cinemascope. Both 1:2.8 and 1:2.4 masks will be ...

Re: super 8 beginner... some questions
I suggest getting the color reversal, the ektachrome 100d. then take it to walmart for processing. itll be the cheapest and easiest way to do your forst rolls. no fuss no muss, you drop it off and a few wwks later you pick it up. I also suggest maybe getting a slightly better camera!

I forgot to mention, some say 13%, the wiki says 20% but no information on how to get those numbers or how safe they are when acheived.

Re: where is widened super8 gates going?
I really dont want to have to rely on pro8mm. The hope is other places can carry out so there are options with the processing and telecine. Spectra can't use the larger frame area in their transfer process. I wont be getting them to do the gate widening if I go that route. I can remove the gate myse...

Re: projector overcranking
yes, It's a Mekel. I'm going to see if I can have a projector running at 48 frames a second. I found the m80 does 56. I have access to a Lafayette but know nothing about its running speed. I'm also wondering if there are 16mm projectors, especially xenon ones, that go faster than 24fps.
