Re: Diy telecine unit
All, I still support CineCap. All customers who have ever bought Dodcap or CineCap can still upgrade to the most recent version (1.40) for free . They can just email me and I will send them the latest software. This hasn't changed. I may need to add an extra note explaining that to my website. Thank...

Suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions, and sorry for the upgrade problem. I'll consider the suggestions for next release, especially the ability to disable the auto-numbering. That sounds like an easy one to implement.

Upgrade Problem
Tony, This sounds like an upgrade glitch, not "sheisting." The website means what it says...upgrades from Dodcap (or earlier versions of CineCap) are free for registered users such as yourself. Sorry for the trouble. Refer to my response to your email for more info. My main response to you...

Pulldown Patterns
In terms of doing the pulldown in Dodcap/CineCap, it almost sounds like you are doing an interlaced pulldown when what you want is a whole-frame pulldown. If you use an "industry standard" pulldown scheme for converting 16 or 18 fps film to PAL speeds, then about every third frame will in ...

Dodcap/CineCap
Tom, Indeed...point taken. I am out of state right now on a business trip (yes, I do have another job besides maintaining Dodcap/CineCap) but when I get back in town I will go ahead and make my updated website available as http://www.alternaware.com. I am still maintaining the software and do plan t...

Speed Changes
Uppsala, CineCap has been able to do custom speed change patterns from version 1.0 if you specify the pattern you want. With the latest release, this is even easier...CineCap will do almost any speed you want, from 7 fps to 24 fps. You just enter what speed you want, and CineCap will calculate for y...

Well...Not Necessarily
Hello Uppsala, You are right! Any NLE worth its salt will do speed changes and horizontal or vertical flips. A comparison though: Almost all NLE's: - can only do speed changes/vertical flips on one file at a time - perform speed changes by duplicating whole original frames - see image upside-down if...

VidCap
Hi Film-O-Matic, But...does VidCap do speed change previews, speed changes, vertical flipping during preview for Sniper units, batch post processing, etc...? VidCap.exe is a tried-and-true sample program from Microsoft that will do streaming and stop-motion capture. However, that's about all it does...

CineCap on Mac
Two people have told me that they ran CineCap on a Mac using a PC emulator, and that it actually worked. I can't certify this though, because I have not tried it myself. I do have access to some folks who have Macs (and probably PC emulators) so I will try it, just out of curiosity. I hear what you ...

Negative
Jusetan, I have not added the negative flip yet, but I have added the ability to do almost any pulldown pattern. You can type in your own patterns, or you can use a built-in calculator to enter the speed you want and CineCap will figure out the smoothest pattern for that speed. There is actually a w...

A reminder to anyone who is running an older version of Dodcap/CineCap: upgrades are free for registered users, so if you want to update, just download the latest from the website and use your existing registration information. You can view your current registration information by choosing "Abo...

Camera & 64T
The Nizo-Braun S56 has a manual aperture setting, and its internal meter will also handle E64T correctly. I have shot one roll with this camera, and it turned out quite well. You just have to use an 85B filter when shooting outdoors.

Super 8 Today
My impressions: The articles needed some editing (lots of typos, words used incorrectly, etc.). However, that is really my only criticism. Here's what I liked: Layout: I didn't make a judgement about whether or not the layout was amateurish. I figure since I didn't notice anything unusual about it, ...

I have only shot two rolls of K40 underwater with the Nautica. However, here was my experience: First of all, I was shocked at how well the K40 was exposed when fairly deep (approximately 30 feet) underwater. The film I shot was in Hawaii. I think it helped that it was a completely cloudless, sunny ...

Ektachrome 64T
I did shoot one roll of 64T, with good results. I am one of the worst filmmakers in the world, and I only shoot about once a year, and then it is just home movies. As I said though, I was actually pretty pleased with the outcome. I shot using a Nizo/Braun S56 camera. The built-in daylight/tungsten f...
