Re: 16mm

Totally agree with you Pav. Sorry to say it but I think Koda's Super8 experiment is a wild goosechase. What I think is really needed, and would have played to all Kodak's strengths as a film-stock producer, is greater variety in the emulsions they offer. The Ektachrome release news is good, but I do...

Re: Motor belt for Elmo 912/S Super-8 editor

Hi Karen, I don't know where you are based, but an option in the UK might be this range (scroll around for all the sizes they do): https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/cassette-player-drive-belt-46mm-yx76h They also do a series of belts for small electric motors but I can't find that page....that one lists th...

Re: Kodak teams up with Girl Skateboards

Hi Andreas, Thanks for putting this up. I think it was always pretty obvious where Kodak were going to try and position themselves on both the camera and filmstocks, the skate clip is none too subtle about this with the intercut digital stuff. I for one would hope that in their marketing they shift ...

Re: lenses

Modern digital systems are also throwing up some interesting lenses which can be adapted to our film cameras, even if not in the mount we've been talking about so far... I've liked what Voigtlander have been doing for a while with their low-light offerings, but I would love to see results from their...

Re: lenses

Hi Pav, They key here is flange focus distance (FFD).... When the M4/3 system was designed, (and why it has proved so popular) was their choice of a really short FFD, thus allowing lenses from virtually all previous systems (with 'larger' / 'longer' FFD) to be able to be fitted with an adapter, whic...

Re: Nikon R10 filter

Hi Mark,

Just find a small coin that fits and use that, it will be fine.

Good luck with the camera, the R10 is great. I really like its results with black and white stocks.

User Review: the 16mm Kiev Alpha 16 'PolyAutomat'

I thought I'd post a few comments on this camera. I've now got a couple of these, but as this latest one came to me as essentially a 'New Old Stock' type deal, I thought it would be interesting to describe some of the common positives and negative for a camera 'out of the (very old) box'. Various ve...

Re: Filming a Car

Hi Pav, Mike's suggestion above is pretty neat, how are you going to operate the camera, with some kind of cable release from inside the car? A cheaper alternative would be to simply remove the car bonnet, that would give you far more opportunities to bolt the camera to something solid, ie the car's...

Re: Frame rate capture transfer question

Hi Patrick, The frame rate issue is probably number 72 on a list of 100 with this setup. 24fps may have been written on the side of the original camera itself, but its very unlikely to have actually run at that, exactly . Scratch that problem. You are already considering setting up some kind of back...

Hi there, how does the Fomodon LQR compare to the R09 that I think I read you have used, (R09 is their version of Rodinal I believe)?

Re: A talk on film for new film users

Hey Will, Good luck with the talk. The thing that I always try and keep in mind is that movies are about....well, movement! If you can somehow capture dynamism, movement and change with what you shoot you are half way towards creating something interesting. The stills format is almost always just th...
