Either I'm a dumbass fanboy or the design is nearly perfect for my needs. You're a junkie, dude. Ya just gotta get your fix of Cupertinium to feel normal. I've decided to kick the habit... but I'll buy just one more baggie of Mac Pro first. You're going to do what, XP? Vista? I guess I can't judge,...

Vice versa b/c I have very little choice but to keep a working XP box at home. I end up doing a lot of work there that requires all the facilities of my least favorite tool -- Microsoft Outlook -- and some systems (PeopleSoft, other crap) that must be accessed via VPN and can only be used via Intern...

FWIW, my new iMac is the low end version but with 4 GB of RAM. I run XP in Parallels and/or boot camp. Boot natively to XP and this is easily the best windows machine I ever owned. I bought this machine a couple of months ago when in the market for a new machine. I guess I could have bought anything...

the hv20 is a fantastic camera, easily the best in its price range, and for what it's worth it's the one i use. :-) you can't stop motion capture hdv via firewire though, so it's useless with a workprinter even though it has firewire for sure. however, it does have hdmi and component hd out, so wit...

Re: Movie Theaters in Big Trouble

Expecting to see throngs of cars and hordes of people, especially kids out of school. for the afternoon showings, instead we wondered if the multi-plex was open. Hardly a car one in the lot, and less than ten people showed up to see the movie we chose. To say that attendance is down is a vast under...

Sad, isn't it? When I was a teenager in the late 1980s, I remember going to $3 Tuesdays at the local cineplex. The lobby was completely crowded. It scares me that everyone I know who used to go and see $3 movies every week (at a whopping cost of around $150 a year) now spends $5000 on a fancy wides...

and the simple act of keeping dogs is slavery. i'm sure the keepers of fighting dogs love and care for their friends at least as much as the average, uh, owner. you know i love you man, but you're dead wrong on both counts. i really don't have a dog in this hunt... (cough) ...i think there are many...

Mini-Dv, DVD aren't mastering materials. sure they are. not for broadcast masters but the former makes a great master for making tape dubs and the latter for burning dvd's. maybe we can just conclude that "master" is a very vague term? :-) /matt so I have shot dozens of miniDV tapes full ...

remember, i was talking about the expression. the regular 500t is grainy and has ugly color shifts in the shadows. not even close to being on my list of favorites.

I've got a few hundred feet of V2 500T in my freezer that I bought for a wedding reception and never shot b/c it was pitch dark in there. In retrospect, I may have had enough light to shoot but I think I got more interested in the very high end wine selection. ;-) Matt -- do you rate it at 500, or 3...

If you pick up a Bolex cement splicer (search ebay) and use Kodak film cement, the splices will outlive you. The Bolex splicer make a beveled splice. Personally, I have never liked the tape splices due to covering the actual image and eventual peeling. Toss your splicer and go for a Bolex. That's t...
