True about broken things having value -- I actually need to buy this camera. I have one just like it with a broken trigger mechanism, and could use a couple of other parts from it.

I'm apparently one of the few people using a streaming solution (hacked AppleTV) for everyday DVD watching and all other media purposes (music, divx, etc.). I've had one since the day it came out. Love the concept, the execution is a little weak. Using Quicktime Pro I transcoded some 16mm HD movies...

Both have failed since the day is coming where all media in your home will live on a hard drive or in the cloud. Good Luck I totally agree with you Nigel. I think most people will use harddrives (or flash drives when they become more common) for these high quality formats (and for the formats to co...

My wife worked for Blockbuster's headquarters and they saw that coming a mile away. Blu-Ray was outselling HD-DVD by a wide margin in their stores. They believed it was mostly due to the Sony Playstation. Wait, I'm confused... didn't XBOX 360 outsell PS3 dramatically, at least for a while, and does...

"It cost less than $40..." $40.00 in 1968 would be around $233.34 in 2007 dollars. Probably more affordable for most folks than that would indicate, but just using this inflation calculation, it does seem kind of expensive. :? In 1955 a Bolex B8 cost $119.50, and a McDonald's burger cost ...

We also found WAB to be only marginally useful. Our best success getting free submissions into non-free festivals was writing or calling each festival and giving them our own trumped-up reason why we shouldn't have to pay their fee. Most were very helpful and waived submission fees, especially when ...

So very nice. Thanks for the link. FWIW, YouTube on AppleTV is off the chain for a media slut like myself. Add the NitoTV hack and the 20 hours of Tarkovsky that xtorrent has recently provided and I would be couch-bound... were it not for the impossibility of finding 2 hours these days to watch a mo...

You mean the lovely R16? I too am in love with mine, but I admit to feeling a little slutty toward that younger sister that lives in your house. Fortunately (?) I am also in the middle of a house remodel and will also be selling rather than buying toys soon... maybe your wife can have a talk with mi...

Are the kids' Christmas toys getting more expensive? ;-)

EDIT: Wow, it looks mint. Beautiful.

The last experience (No Country for Old Men) was typical. The five jerks came in fifteen minutes into the film talking just below a shout. Sit right by me and continue talking for several minutes, ignoring the many shhh's being directed at them. Feet up on the seat backs, cell phones on... I wish I...

To say that Hollywood used to make these tremendous movies that motivated audience markets and now they only make crap is so oversimplifying the equation... Yes and no. What is your equation? One of the real problems is that there is such a lack of choice when it comes to most areas. We are victims...

My parent's generation did just fine with a single 19" color TV and perhaps a VCR from the late 1970s onwards, yet my TV sits above a rack of "vital" gear. Yeah, me too. My wife and I are convinced we can get back to almost no gear (in the living room) and maintain access to all the ...

Every review I'm seeing says the Canon HV20 in the 24P mode is a no brainer, that the low light sensitivity is much better than any non-24P consumer camcorder. I really didn't put it through it's paces in low light, just on the beach where I liked the Sony's color a little better and definitely lik...

Vice versa b/c I have very little choice but to keep a working XP box at home. well, that does make sense. :-) i was forced to work in a windows environment a couple years ago as well, i was developing in visual studio, but virtual pc worked great and i'm sure now with the intel processors solution...
